Kenya Purple Tea is a distinctive variety produced from the Camellia sinensis tea plant, which is responsible for the purple coloration of its leaves. This mutation results in higher levels of anthocyanins, a group of antioxidants responsible for the tea’s distinctive purple hue. Purple Tea grades include whole leaf, FBOP, crushed tea among others.
Purple tea is obtained from a purple-leafed varietal of the tea plant. Our purple tea undergoes minimal oxidation and fermentation before being heated and dried.
Purple tea has more antioxidants than any of our other teas. The leaves contain anthocyanins, an antioxidant that turns the tea leaves purple and offers anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce cholesterol, boost the immune system and provide a mental lift. Due to its production method, purple tea also contains half the caffeine of green tea, making it a smooth and relaxing drink.
